Bug Bomb Your Own Home

Bug bombs are also know as foggers. They are an effective way to kill bugs in your home, but they can be dangerous. From 2001 to 2006, there were 466 cases of bug bomb injuries and illnesses in eight states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Take all the necessary precautions before and after using the bug bomb in your home. While professional pest control is recommended, there are many foggers sold in hardware store that allow you to bug bomb your own home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions


Preparation


1. Put out pilot lights, cigarettes or any open flames before using the bug bomb. Ingredients in bug bombs are flammable.


2. Cover all food, utensils, equipment and food surfaces. Place them in plastic food storage containers. Wrap plastic film over flat surfaces such as counter tops and tables. Tape the plastic film underneath using masking tape to seal the flat surface.


3. Lock all the windows in your home. The bug bomb vapors must be trapped within the home.


4. Remove all living things from the home. This includes small pets, fish, plants, etc.


Application


5. Wear protective clothing, goggles, mask and gloves. Bug bombs are highly toxic and dangerous if ingested or inhaled.


6. Place a chair in the center of the room. Cover the chair with newspapers or a garbage bag.


7. Tilt the sprayer away from the chair. The sprayer should be faced toward the ceiling.


8. Press the sprayer tab. It will snap into place.


9. Immediately leave the home after setting the fogger.


10. Leave the bug bomb in the home for five hours.


After Care


11. When reentering the home, open all windows and doors for at least one hour. Air flow assists in the ventilating the home.


12. Mix a solution of 2 tbsp. dish detergent into one gallon of warm water. Scrub any area exposed to the bug bomb fumes with the solution and a rag. These areas include walls, windows, furniture, refrigerator, etc.


13. Mop the floors using the dish solution. Repeat the process three times to remove all bug bomb residue.
