Use Citronella Candles

The oil of citronella grass is used for natural mosquito control world wide. Diseases like Malaria and West Nile Virus are carried by mosquitoes, and people looking for alternatives to chemical bug repellents find that applying citronella oil topically or burning citronella candles nearby significantly reduce the stinging attacks of the possibly deadly insect. While burning citronella candles outdoors may not keep all of the mosquitoes away, experiments by the EPA prove that they are effective. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the citronella candles within 2 meters of your outdoor gathering, about 18 inches apart for maximum insect repellent coverage.

2. Remove any flammable objects from the area near the citronella candle flame.

3. Trim the wick of the citronella candle to 1/2 inch or less.

4. Light the citronella candle to repel insects in the immediate area.

5. Snuff out the citronella candle flame before leaving the area.

6. Cover the candle wick when you are not using the candle to repel insects.
