Tick Head Removal From Humans

Use tweezers to remove tick heads.

Ticks are parasites that are often found in wooded areas. Ticks like to attach themselves to deer, dogs and other animals to feed off of their blood. Ticks can also bite people. It is important to remove the tick promptly to reduce the risk of Lyme disease infection. Lyme disease is an inflammatory condition that, if left untreated, can harm the skin, central nervous system and organs.

Instructions

1. Clean the tweezers with soap and warm water to make sure they are sterile.

2. Grab on to the tick with the tweezers. Aim for the tick's head or mouth.

3. Pull the tick out quickly and with precision, in one straight motion. Don't turn and twist the tick, as that will only make the parasite go deeper into your skin.

4. Put the tick in a cup of rubbing alcohol immediately once you remove it. This will kill the parasite. Dispose of the dead tick in the garbage or flush it down the toilet.

5. Clean the wound with an antiseptic.

6. Call your doctor to make an appointment for a blood test. It is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to potential Lyme disease infection.
