A Doityourself Mosquito Spray System

Unless you want to wear a body net on your porch, choose an alternate way of dealing with mosquitoes.

When the sun is dipping below the horizon and the temperatures have cooled off enough to sit outside and enjoy the crisp spring or summer air, it is also the unfortunate time of day when you are subject to the bloodthirsty critters known as mosquitoes. In some regions, people choose to avoid being outdoors during these evening hours, as the mosquitoes often split their time between being mildly annoying or painfully irritating. For those of you who still enjoy the outdoors, there is a solution: the Mosquito Spray System. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the materials from the system box and check to make sure every part listed on the box is inside.

2. Take off the lid from the reservoir. The front of the lid will have the small "Tic-Tac" shaped hole on the right side. This hole is where the float cord is put through. On the left side are two small holes located below the large bolt hole. The upper small hole is where the suction line goes while the lower one is where the return line goes. In the center of this lid are four small bolt holes. Fit the pump assembly to the lid and bolt it on there with the four ¼ inch bolts with nuts and washers.

3. Push the suction, return and floater lines up through the bottom of the reservoir lid and into the corresponding fittings on the valve above the lid. Push the hoses up firmly, as you won't need tools for this part.

4. Screw the gauge onto the pump assembly with a wench and make sure it is a tight fit.

5. Locate the black electrical cord below the float switch. This cord is a dual-pronged, molded connector. Plug the cord from the float switch into the cord from the timer enclosure. Push them together tight.

6. Hang the outdoor tubing in the area you wish to protect against mosquito infestation. How this is done depends on the area. The tubing is often secured to fences, rooftops or just under the railings on decks and patios. You can use staples, loop clamps or other fasteners. The company cautions against having the nozzles facing directly on shrubbery, over ponds with fish or on house siding.

7. Measure every four to six feet in and cut the tubing to insert a nozzle in between two cut ends of the tube. The nozzle resembles a "T" connector. For larger areas, fasten the tubing every four to six feet and add a nozzle every 12 feet.

8. Connect the tubing line running out in the yard to the output pressure fitting on the pump housing. Push the tube in firmly.

9. Fill the reservoir half-way with filtered water and screw the lid on. Plug in the pump and turn it on. Observe each nozzle to make sure that a fine mist is spraying. Check where it is spraying and make sure you won't mind where it is landing. Make any final adjustments to the nozzles as they are spraying harmless water.

10. Remove the cap to the reservoir and add the insecticide concentrate according to the directions on the label and the size of your reservoir. You are now ready to begin using your mosquito sprayer.
