Make Vanilla Spray For Bugs

You can repel insects using natural vanilla extract.

If you enjoy being outdoors in warm weather, then you know how irritating and frustrating it can be to have insects buzzing around. Although you can buy insect repellent from a supermarket or drug store, commercially-produced insect repellent often contains strong chemical ingredients. One solution is to make your own bug spray using natural ingredients. Vanilla extract naturally repels bugs and can be used as an ingredient in a homemade bug spray. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Pour 1/2 cup of witch hazel into a bowl. Witch hazel is an antiseptic and can be applied directly to the skin.

2. Stir in 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel soothes skin irritations, which can be helpful if you already have a few bug bites. Stir the mixture well with a spoon.

3. Add in 2 Tbsp. of pure vanilla extract. It is important that you use real vanilla extract and not imitation vanilla extract, because the insects will not be deterred by an artificial vanilla aroma. Insects do not like the smell of pure vanilla and will be repelled by it. You can find pure vanilla extract at any health food store. Stir the mixture thoroughly.

4. Take the lid off a clean, dry spray bottle, and place a funnel into the top.

5. Pour the contents of the bowl into the bottle thorough the funnel, then remove the funnel. Screw the top back onto the bottle, and shake the bottle to mix the solution. Spray your skin well when you are outdoors. Reapply every two to four hours.
