Homemade Pesticides

One of the most effective ways to keep insects and other pesky biting creatures away from your vegetable and flower gardens is to spray the plants with store-bought pesticides. Unfortunately, these products are filled with chemicals that can harm the plants and cover the vegetables with toxins that your family will later ingest. Instead of using potentially dangerous chemicals to keep the bugs out of the garden, manufacture safe pesticides at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Garlic Mixture

1. Mix 1/4 cup finely chopped garlic cloves with 2 tbsp. mineral oil. Allow the mixture to sit for two days.

2. Add 1/4 cup unscented liquid soap to the mixture. Stir until well combined.

3. Pour the mixture through a coffee strainer that is placed over a bucket. Throw out the solid portion of the mixture.

4. Add 2 cups of cold water to the bucket. Stir. Place the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the mixture onto plants and vegetables to eradicate insects naturally. The smell of the garlic will deter insects without harming the plant.

Canola Oil

5. Pour 1 cup canola oil into a bowl.

6. Add 1 tbsp. liquid dish soap into the bowl. Avoid using soaps that contain dyes, perfumes or that are antibacterial. These could all harm the plant.

7. Pour 1 cup water into a plastic spray bottle. Add 2 tsp. of the canola oil mixture into the spray bottle. Shake the bottle and spray the mixture directly onto plants and vegetables.
