Repair A Tear In A Window Screen

Damaged window screens don't always need to be replaced. If a window screen has a clean cut or tear, it can be stitched back together with fishing line and a needle. Though it won't look like new, this repair will allow the screen to keep bugs and other pests out of the house. A light coating of clear nail polish ensures that the mended area remains strong. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the screen from the window if possible and lay it flat on the ground or a table.

2. Trim away any rough or tattered edges from the torn area with a pair of sharp scissors. Be careful not to make the hole much larger.

3. Cut a length of fishing line and thread it onto the needle. Knot the end of the fishing line.

4. Mend the tear in the window screen using a zigzag stitch, keeping the edges of the tear lined up. Do not pull the fishing line too tight, as that will cause the screen to pucker. Knot the fishing line when you are finished sewing.

5. Paint over the fishing-line seam with clear nail polish, paying special attention to the knots on either end. Rehang the screen after the nail polish dries.
