Mosquitoproof Windows & Doors

Balmy summer evenings and cool summer mornings are usually the top choices for when to get things done if you know the middle of the day will be very hot. Unfortunately, these are also prime bug times and hungry mosquitoes will do what they can to get into your home if they know you're there. Keeping them out and away from your home is of great importance, especially if you're allergic to the bites. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Replace any window screens that have holes or that are bent enough to let bugs sneak past the frame. Add screens to windows that didn't have them previously.

2. Tape mosquito netting to the wall over the window as a last resort. Tape all the way around so there are no open gaps through which desperate mosquitoes can sneak. Remember that you won't be able to open or close the window without removing a portion of the netting for access and this can wear down the adhesive on the tape. You'll have to inspect the tape daily to find any forming gaps.

3. Open and close any screen doors, if you have them, to see how well they fit when shut. Replace or fix them as needed to ensure you have a tight seal when they close. Always close the screen door yourself, rather than letting it shut by itself. Some doors have special hinges that catch as the door is closing to prevent the door from slamming shut. These slow down the door, giving mosquitoes extra time to get in.
