Homemade Natural Insect Repellents

Homemade insect repellent helps repel mosquitoes and other biting pests.

A "natural" homemade insect repellent allows you to keep mosquitoes and other pests away from you and your outdoor-lounging areas. You can make an effective natural insect repellent from a variety of botanical and organic materials. Whether you want bodily protection or something wider, making your own repellent is easy to achieve in your home kitchen. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Add the water to the plastic spray bottle.

2. Add the borax. Borax works as an emulsifier that binds oil and water. It also gives it a smooth consistency that allows it to double both as a spray and a cleanser.

3. Add the essential oils of citronella and lavender. Both plant essences are popularly used in insect repellents due to their strong, camphor-like fragrances.

4. Secure the cap on the bottle and shake it for two minutes so the solution blends properly.
