Diy Propane Mosquito & Black Fly Traps

Flies and mosquitoes are annoying household pests.

A propane mosquito and black fly trap will both attract these bugs and suck them up in a vacuum to make sure they disappear. The trap mimics the features of a cow that attracts both black flies and mosquitoes. The chemical octenol is a plant-based chemical that cows emit. The warmth and moisture created by the propane will also attract these insects. If you use this trap for a few weeks, you could significantly reduce the mosquito and fly population in the area around your yard or garden for a period of time longer than a few weeks, since there will not be enough females to reproduce significant amounts of flies and mosquitoes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the ceramic grid on top of your propane tank. This grid will be the platform which will attract mosquitoes and flies.

2. Purchase a cartridge of octenol from a hardware store and place the cartridge on the grid. Octenol is a chemical that attracts mosquitoes and flies. Place tape on the bottom of the cartridge to hold it onto the grid so that the vacuum does not pull it.

3. Tape the suction tube of a vacuum cleaner to the propane tank and grid so that it will suck up mosquitoes and flies attracted to it. Tape the tube along the height of the propane tank and make it bend 90 degrees so that it can suck up something that sits on the middle of the grid. The suction part should sit at the edge of the grid and not protrude towards the grid's center.

4. Ignite the propane and turn on the vacuum cleaner.
