Are Insect Foggers Safe

Use insect foggers to terminate various types of insects living in your home.


Also known as "bug bombs," insect foggers are insecticide products that create a fog of poison inside your home that effectively kills all or most insects inside or in the walls of your home. Their safety may lie in the brand of fogger you use as well as how closely you follow package instructions. Does this Spark an idea?

If used properly and according to the instructions, insect foggers pose no direct threat to your household or pets. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports numerous deaths, illnesses and serious injuries caused by improper use of insect foggers.


Considerations


Chemicals released by the insect fogger may leak into exposed foods and liquids and make your family ill. In addition, chemicals may seep out of your home, into the atmosphere and begin eating away at particles of the ozone.


Warning


Before using a fogger in your home, you will need to properly prepare by closing all windows, turning power off in all rooms and sealing all food in airtight containers. Remove all people and pets from the home before turning on the foggers.
