Mosquito netting is a versatile and inexpensive fabric that may be used to add texture, mystery and romance to a space. The netting may be used indoors or outdoors as long as it is properly maintained. You may purchase mosquito netting online or in a fabric store by the yard, or make your purchase at a department store for simple projects that do not require special measurements. Bed Canopy
A bed canopy is the most common decor use for mosquito netting. Structured canopies, with gathers and supports sewn in, can be found inexpensively in department stores. If you have a four-poster canopy bed, and desire a more artistic look, drape the canopy with lengths of the netting. If your bed has no canopy, there are mosquito-netting hoops that may hung from the ceiling.
Bed Skirt
A bed skirt made with mosquito netting will give your bed an element of romance. Measure around the foot and two sides of your bed, and then triple this measurement for the amount of yardage to purchase. Cut the yardage to the appropriate length for your bed and then gather the mosquito netting with the sewing machine. Cut an old bed sheet to the exact size of your box spring. Sew the gathered edge of netting around three corners of the sheet. Place the sheet between your box spring and mattress for a beautiful new bed skirt.
Window Treatments
Use mosquito netting for a sheer window treatment or decorative shower curtain. To purchase the appropriate amount of yardage, double or triple the width of the window or shower. To make a pocket for the curtain or shower rod, fold over the top of the fabric 3 to 4 inches across the width. Sew the seam down. After you have a pocket, you may then put your rod through and mount the curtain on the wall.
Gazebo Curtains
A gazebo curtain made from mosquito netting will not only add to your outdoor decor, it will also protect you from mosquitoes. There are many canopies available, both online and in specialty outdoor stores, that are made specifically for gazebos. If mosquito protection is not a motivation, try tying the netting to each gazebo post, then blouse out the top of the netting for a cool, breezy look.
