Directions To Change The Keypad For A Craftsman 1/2 Horsepower Garage Door Opener

Craftsman manufactures many types of garage door automatic openers, with a wide range of power options for virtually any garage door. Craftsman openers can be programmable to add additional remotes and keypads to the system. A keypad is a remote that is installed on the outside wall of the garage, often on the jamb. When a user enters the correct password in the keypad, the garage door automatically opens. If your old keypad has broken, remove it and install a new one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the old keypad from the wall. To remove most keypads, lift the cover and remove the screw on the battery cover. Remove the battery cover, then remove the mounting screw to remove the keypad from the wall.

2. To install Craftsman keypads, lift the cover, remove the screw on the battery cover and then remove the battery cover. Place the keypad at a comfortable height and then mark the center of the keypad using a pencil. Make a mark 4 1/4 inches above the center with the pencil, centering the mark with the door jamb or wall. Drill a pilot hole at the top mark using a 1/8-inch drill bit, then install the mounting screw included with the keypad, allowing the head to protrude approximately 1/8 inch from the wall. Slide the keypad onto the to screw by inserting the screw into the keyhole on the rear of the keypad. Ensure that the keypad is straight using a level and then mark the bottom mounting hole with a pencil. Remove the keypad from the wall and then drill another pilot hole using a 1/8-inch drill bit. Reinstall the keypad on the top screw and then insert the bottom mounting screw included with the keypad.

3. Press and release the "Learn" button on the rear of the inside garage door opener unit. When pressed, the status indicator on the rear of the garage door opener will illuminate.

4. Enter the desired four-digit password on the new keypad and then press and hold the "Enter" button.

5. Release the "Enter" button when either the light on the garage door opener blinks twice or you hear two clicks.
