Repel Mosquitoes In Indiana

Spray repellents are a good start in fighting off mosquitoes.

Once the state of Indiana thaws from its winter freeze, a common nuisance -- mosquitoes -- makes its way into the outdoor lives of everyone who lives in the state. Avoiding mosquitoes in Indiana is like taking a trip through the fine state and never passing a cornfield; it's impossible. The only defense is to repel them during the spring and summer months with a few tricks that people in the Hoosier state have learned along the way. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Acknowledge the Problem

1. Know that your lawn and gardens contribute to the mosquito frequency of your home. Remove bird baths or any standing water in your yard where mosquitoes lay eggs. This will prevent larvae from hatching and growing the mosquito population.

2. Defend your yard by installing citronella candles or torches. Light the candles or torches 20 minutes before going outside. Burning the citronella for that amount of time will create a barrier around the enjoyment area. Build a fire, if the outdoor atmosphere allows. The smoke and heat act as a natural repellent.

3. Remove any perfume or lotion from exposed skin surfaces to avoid attacks. Apply a topical repellent to exposed skin and clothing to defend from attacks. Purchase additional methods from a store. You can buy personal repellents that you can wear or attach to your chair.

4. Erect mosquito nets around lawn furniture to aid in the comfort of enjoying the outside. Installing a net is akin to a screened-in porch atmosphere, allowing for hours of outside enjoyment without the repellents.
