Take a small getaway by going sailing.
Taking a vacation, however small, is an important way to prevent burn out from the busyness of life. Even if you're on a tight schedule or budget, you can still find many places to visit in your area where you can enjoy a nice break.
Take Advantage of Your Community
Whether you live along the coast, river, lake, or mountain, take advantage of your community. Arrange for an overnight stay at the hotel of your choice near you and retreat. If you live in southern California, consider visiting a hotel by the beach and getting pampered. If you live in the Midwest, camp out in the mountains. Search your local travel guide for great options. City dwellers can get away to a mountain cabin for a break from city life. Go camping in Colorado, or enjoy a day off at the lake in Michigan, where you can rent a boat by the hour or for the whole day. Even though you didn't go far, just getting away from your home and job can be extremely refreshing.
Change Things Up
For an change of pace, try doing something completely different than your usual pastimes. Take a group of friends and head to Las Vegas. Enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting in Napa or Sedona and stay the night. If you live in a big city, plan a fishing trip. If you live in a rural community, take a day off or a weekend and visit the city. Take a pleasant road trip outside of your day-to-day activities for a great mini vacation that is both affordable and relaxing.
Day Spa
Visiting a day spa is a convenient way to retreat without taking more than a day off. You'll be surprise how relaxing a massage can be. Many day spas have package deals available, and you can even stay there an entire day! You can get a massage, facial, a spa lunch (small healthy meals in between your spa services), and utilize their pool and other amenities. Pelican Hill of Newport Coast provides their spa guests a full day's access to their pool, steam room, sauna and fitness center. Guests will typically have breakfast there, enjoy their spa services and lunch and lounge by the pool until dinner time.
Take a Quiet Day
If you can't afford to take time off or have the budget to go anywhere, stay in. Turn off your computer and phone and just relax. Stay in your pajamas all day, watch your favorite movie or a new flick and order in food. Tune out of work and turn off your mind for a mini stay-at-home vacation.
