Help Fight Mosquitoes In My Backyard

Female mosquitoes use mammalian blood to feed their young.

With more than 70 percent of Americans stating that mosquitoes are a severe problem in their backyards, fighting off these pests is a massive concern across the country. Besides creating incredibly itchy wounds at the point of the bite, mosquitoes also carry life-threatening diseases like malaria and yellow fever. However, there are many effective methods for both preventing mosquitoes from breeding in your backyard and for staving off these pests if they become a bothersome hazard. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Rid your backyard of all small stagnant pools of water -- these are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

2. Change or dispose of all bird bath, gutter and ditch water weekly. Keep swimming pools freshly chlorinated to prevent mosquitoes larvae.

3. Add bacillus thuringiensis to any pools of water. This natural chemical is harmless to other insects and safe for pets.

4. Spray the whole backyard with a mixture of neem oil, bacillus thuringiensis and natural pyrethrins. This will also kill fleas and ticks.

5. Burn candles containing mosquito repellent citronella oil along the perimeter of the backyard.

6. Use neem oil on your skin and the skin of your pets to repel mosquitoes directly when you are lounging in the backyard.
