Garlic has many uses in the yard
Garlic can be useful for many plants that might be found in a yard. If used in companion planting, it can ward off diseases that can damage plants and repel numerous insects. Garlic can also be made into a natural pesticide. Does this Spark an idea?
Insect Benefits
Garlic has a reputation for warding off certain pests. Gardeners often plant garlic near roses to deter aphids. It protects tomatoes from spider mites and deters boring insects if the garlic is planted near fruit trees.
Additional Benefits
Garlic naturally accumulates sulphur, a component used successfully to treat numerous fungus diseases. Peach trees planted near garlic don't get leaf curl and garlic appears to keep apple scab away from apple trees. When plants become diseased, they are more susceptible to attack from other pests. Anything that keeps a plant healthy, therefore, deters further pest problems.
Garlic Spray
An insecticide can be made from 15 cloves of garlic pureed through a blender with a pint of water. This insecticide can be used to treat plants in areas where garlic cannot be grown.
