Hemp Mosquito Repellent

Whether you're camping or enjoying an evening on your back deck, keeping mosquitoes away is a top priority in ensuring comfort. Natural mosquito repellents are easy to make when you use hemp as a base carrier for the other ingredients needed. Does this Spark an idea?

Hemp Oil

Although hemp doesn't possess insect-repelling properties, it serves as a rich, natural material to carry insect-repelling ingredients. Hemp butter and hemp oil can be purchased from craft and hobby supply stores, and are safe to apply to your skin or add to homemade candle recipes to carry essential oils that repel mosquitoes. This natural material is sought-after in natural skincare formulas containing mosquito-repelling additives.

Citronella

Obtained from stems and leaves of various camphorous plants, citronella is a widely used oil famous for repelling mosquitoes. It can be obtained from lemongrass, citronella geraniums and even myrrh. The essential oil of citronella can be obtained at craft and hobby supply stores, and is easily added to a hemp butter or hemp oil base to create an insect repellent. The smell also deters cats.

Lavender

Lavender is commercially cultivated for a wide array of uses, most commonly perfumery. It's also used in natural mosquito repellent formulations. Adding essential oil of lavender to a hemp-and-citronella blend adds to the fragrance and deters mosquitoes and other biting insects.
