Homemade Anti Itch Cream

Insect bites can cause itching.

Homemade anti-itch creams can be used to combat a great deal of itches, whether they be caused by insect bites, allergic reactions or unknown sources. Using some commonly found items in the home, it is possible for you to abate the itching, which will prevent the spread of infection. Homemade anti-itch creams can be made without a great deal of specialist knowledge or technical equipment. If itching persists however, then it may be best to speak to your pharmacist.

Instructions

1. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/8 of a cup of water and a teaspoon of salt into a bowl. Mix well until the ingredients form a paste. This paste can now be added to the affected area, and will combat the itching. Alternatively, add one cup of baking soda to your bath before you get in to fight itching.

2. Use a homemade anesthetic to stop the itching. Pouring vodka or lemon juice onto the affected area will anesthetize the bite or sting, and will help to sterilize the area. With young children, you may wish to dilute the lemon juice with a little water before applying. Do not try the vodka option with children, as it may enter their bloodstream.

3. Use herbs from the kitchen to make an anti-itch substance. Boil one pint of water and add one ounce of thyme, mint or basil to the water. Stir it and allow to cool. When it has cooled, dip a cloth in the water and apply to the affected area. The chemicals in the herbs will help to numb the nerve endings and cool the inflamed skin.

4. Rub the area with a banana skin. The inside of a banana skin contains oils that will help to cool the area, particularly with mosquito or insect bites.
