Make Yellowjacket Attractant

Yellow jackets are some of the most aggressive wasps in the United States. They are extremely protective of their nests and will likely attack anybody or anything that goes near it. For this reason, many people want to get them as far away as possible. Like most insects, yellow jackets can be lured away with a simple homemade bait. Take care of your yellow jacket infestation the easy, natural way. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine what type of container you should use. If you want to trap the yellow jackets, you should use a 2-liter bottle. If you simply want to attract them to a different area of your yard, then a small plastic dish will do.

2. Cut the curved top part off of a 2-liter bottle if you want to make a trap. Flip the top upside down and stick it inside the bottom portion of the bottle. Yellow jackets will fly inside the bottle when they smell the bait, but they will have difficulty flying back out.

3. Find a good spot to put the container or trap. Put it in a spot far from where people normally walk.

4. Put enough meat in the container to cover the bottom during the spring and early summer months. Yellow jackets spend much of their time looking for protein during this time of the year. Change the meat daily because yellow jackets will not eat spoiled meat.

5. Spread jam or syrup along the inside of the container during the late summer and fall months. Refill the container as often as necessary.
