Listerine Mouthwash As A Mosquito Repellent

Keep mosquitoes away with this minty solution.

While there may not be scientific studies to support the use of Listerine as mosquito repellent, there is a plethora of testimony from former mosquito-bite sufferers who swear by it. If you prefer not to use traditional pesticides, Listerine may be worth a try. Does this Spark an idea?

Active Ingredient

Listerine can be applied to the skin or to the area surrounding the house to repel--and even kill--mosquitoes and other insects. According to the Pest Information website, the thyme used in Listerine serves to deter these pests.

Directions

To use Listerine as a mosquito repellent, simply dilute the mouthwash to half strength and pour it into a spray bottle. Use it to spray your skin, deck, picnic tables, doorways and window areas. If you can't find a spray bottle, rubbing Listerine directly on your skin works well, too.

Drawbacks

You'll have to reapply the Listerine every two hours to keep it working effectively. Don't spray it directly on wood surfaces, as it may cause damage.
