Eucalyptus Oil For Fleas

Flea control is a serious problem for pet owners, especially those who opt not to use traditional flea medications because of the pesticides they contain. Eucalyptus leaves offer a safe and effective alternative for dog owners; however the phenols in eucalyptus are toxic to cats.

Benefits

The smell of eucalyptus oil repels not only fleas but also other bugs. In addition, it is effective for a long time without the need for reapplying. It can be used in your house as well as on your pet and is free of pesticides.

Finding Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus leaves can be purchased at any crafts store. Eucalyptus oil is available at health food stores.

Household Uses

Place eucalyptus leaves around your yard or under your carpet to repel fleas from your house. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the final rinse when washing your pet's bedding to cleanse thoroughly.

Eucalyptus Oil Uses

Mix 1/4 tsp. eucalyptus oil with eight to 10 ounces of water and spray in your house and on your dog. Place two or three drops of eucalyptus on your dog's collar to repel fleas.

Warning

Don't allow your dog to ingest eucalyptus oil as a large amount can be toxic. Don't leave it out anywhere your dog can reach it.
