The sound of chirping crickets is a staple of summer to many and others consider a cricket inside the house to be a good luck charm. Still, crickets can create a major problem as they feed on your clothes, carpet and towels. Keeping the chirping at a distance, however, can be as simple as a little maintenance. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. You need to fix all of those problem areas around your house that allow crickets to get in. A torn screen door, a crack in the foundation or an opening in a window seal are all easy access areas for crickets. Cracks and openings in siding, foundation, or windows can be sealed with a simple all-weather outdoor sealer, while a tear in the mesh on your screen door can be fixed with a simple mesh patch.
2. You also want to avoid creating a nesting ground for crickets around your home. Clear any debris or overgrown vegetation from around the perimeter of your house. Piles of weeds and open trash containers are also ideal homes for crickets. Also, don't limit your maintenance to ground level; clogged gutters are one of crickets' favorite places to nest.
3. Inside the house can also be home to cricket larvae so be sure to vacuum in the backs of closets and under beds to avoid having an outbreak inside your house. If an outbreak does occur inside, insect sticky pads are a good way to trap crickets without putting pets or small children at risk with chemical pesticides.
