Kill Ticks On Dogs With Garlic

Prevention is the best method to keep your dog flea and tick free. However, even with preventive measures, the occasional tick may latch on to your dog. Ticks can cause serious health risks in your dog, including canine Lyme disease. Many pet owners are not keen on applying pesticides to their pets, so they seek alternative, non-chemical methods to battle ticks.

Instructions

1. Obtain pure liquid garlic extract. You can usually find this in the spices section at your local grocery store. If you are concerned about the quality and purity of the garlic extract, you may want to purchase it from an organic or health food store.

2. Apply five to ten drops of liquid garlic extract to the affected area. Make sure you apply it directly to the tick, as the garlic will repel and kill the tick.

3. Keep your dog still for 20 to 30 minutes. This is how long it takes for the tick to die. If your dog is running around, you may lose the tick.

4. Remove the dead tick with a pair of tweezers. The tick should unclench its grasp on your dog's skin upon death, but you may need to pull it out with a pair of tweezers. If the tick is still alive when you try to remove it, it could panic and vomit into your pet's blood stream. It is this vomit that causes illness.

5. Treat the tick site after removal with an antibiotic cream to fight infection. If the wound is in a place your dog can reach, you may need cover it with a bandage to discourage your pet from licking the wound and ingesting the antibiotic.
