1. First things first you are going to want to get your hands on a 55 gallon drum. Often times you can find old drums at the local junkyard or automobile shops may even be giving them away. Have a look around and you are sure to find a drum that is perfect for the job.


2. Once you have the drum in your possession you are going to want to divide it into quarters. For this you can use masking tape to make sure your measurements, and eventually your cuts, are perfectly even. Now, slowly and accurately cut out one quarter or the 55 gallon drum with a Sawzall. This quarter section will eventually become the lid for the grill.


3. Next, take some angle iron and weld it so it can be used as support for the grill. Make a rectangular shape out of the angled iron and weld it into place in the middle of the oil drum. This will hold the grill in place and also provide support for the entire grill as a whole.


4. After you have welded the iron into the grill; you need to find a proper mesh metal that can be used as the primary grill. Sometimes the best choice can be a heavier metal. To ensure safety you want to make sure that all the edges of the mesh metal are tacked down so they are not as sharp. This will make it easier to scrub clean after grilling your mouth watering delicacies.


5. Basically, that is your grill made from a 55 gallon drum. Now you are going to want to pick out an appropriate location and build a stand for your wonderful homemade grill. You can use and bend some metal pieces into moon shapes and weld them onto the bottom of your grill. This will create a sturdy cradle that you can attach legs onto.


6. Find some strong metal like 2 X 1 steel for the legs. Do not be scared to cut relief marks throughout the legs. This will allow the whole device to have a little bit of give which will give it more durability in the long run. Attach the legs and presto, you have your very own, inexpensive and efficient 55 gallon drum grill.
