Coleman is a manufacturer of numerous camping and outdoor recreation products, including a line of portable ovens. Constructed from steel, these ovens can hold up in the elements while baking your food items or keeping them warm. The oven folds flat for easy portability as well. Keep some tips in mind while using a Coleman oven.
Installation
The Coleman oven sets up quickly with the use of a simple tab system. To open, pull the two sides of the oven apart, and make sure all four tabs are engaged on each side. Pull the latch on the bottom of the oven to secure it. Keep one hand securely on the oven as you pull the top of the oven through the center to latch it in place. Once all tabs and latches are secured, open the door of the oven, and put the rack in one of the slots. When you are finished using the oven, fold it up by unhooking the latches. Make sure you wait until the oven has completely cooled first.
Temperature
An issue you may experience while using a Coleman oven is the inability to keep the temperature regulated inside. This is especially the case in outdoor conditions where the winds are high. Cooking temperatures that are not stable can cause food to cook unevenly or to take a long time to bake. To avoid this, wrap the exterior of the oven in tin foil before placing on top of the heat source. When operating the Coleman oven, use a portable stove to heat the unit. Coleman manufactures a portable camping stove as well. Monitor the temperature with the easy-to-read external thermometer. Stabilize temperatures by allowing plenty of time to preheat the Coleman oven.
Size
When packing items to cook in your Coleman oven, keep in mind that the unit is small; it will only accomodate an 8 to 9-inch pan. Expect to bake compact items, like muffins, small pies and compact loaves of bread. You cannot place full muffin pans, pizza trays and other large baking items inside.
