Snow Cone Machines Advice

Enjoy snow cones at fundraisers and other events.


Snow cone machines are popular at large office parties, carnivals, flea markets and fund raisers. Many people select to rent this type of machinery, since it's often for limited event use. Stock up on different flavor syrups to add to the snow cones, set up a sanitary working area with plenty of room, and get ready to hand out these icy treats on a hot afternoon.


Importance of Safety


Snow cone machines are extremely dangerous pieces of equipment if not used properly. It's imperative to take safety precautions. Snow cone machines should never be operated by teens or younger children. Make certain onlookers are at least three feet away from the machine, to prevent potential accidents.


Plug the machine into a grounded outlet for the highest safety. Double-check the volts and amps for the grounded outlet to assure they match the machine. Unplug the equipment when not operating it.


Use ice that is specifically made to crush and shave in snow cone machines. Place a small amount in at a time. Keep an eye on your fingers to prevent amputation by the sharp blades.


Keep cords away from the drip and drain trays. Water and electricity simply don't mix.


Renting Snow Cone Machines


Rent snow cone machines from reputable rental companies (see Resources). Avoid renting equipment from unknown individuals. It's imperative the equipment be in good condition to prevent accidents. Faulty snow cone machines are dangerous to operate.


Read the rental contract to assure you understand all the terms and conditions. Ask the renter any questions you are unclear about. Ask to see a demonstration of properly operate the equipment. Double-check that all the necessary parts and pieces of the snow cone equipment are given to you when you pick up or have the snow cone machine delivered to you.


Ascertain if there are any hidden fees or charges, before you sign the rental contract. For example, there are often fees tacked on for cleaning the snow cone machine when it's returned. Damage fees are charged if the equipment isn't returned in the same operating condition as when you received it.


Cleaning


Clean equipment not only keeps it operating well, but is sanitary. Unplug the snow cone machine before cleaning it. Wipe the exterior of the machine. Pour hot water over the shaving blades and allow to air dry for several minutes. Repeat hourly while operating the machine.


Place the drip or drain pan under the drain hole on the equipment. Check this tray often. Empty as needed. Wipe down with a mild sanitizing solution. Wipe the countertop at the same time, to keep a tidy operating environment.


Unplug the machinery when done for the shift. Break apart the machine completely. Individually clean each part and reassemble for further use or to return to the rental company.
