Mosquitoes are the bane of many a picnic or barbecue, but they don't have to be.
Mosquitoes might just be the most annoying, infuriating insect in the outdoors. They don't just bite, they leave a red bump after their departure, which stings and itches, causing much irritation. Mosquitoes can also make it impossible to enjoy a summer picnic, a barbecue or a camping trip. If you have many or even swarms of mosquitoes in your yard, you need to be as aggressive with them as they are with you. The good news is that you can fight them without exposing your household to a slew of dangerous chemicals. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Grow plants all over your yard that naturally repel mosquitoes. These include basil, lemongrass, thyme, tansies, garlic, marigolds, catnip, rosemary and citronella. Don't just grow these plants in beds at ground level; hang them from baskets and put them on windowsills.
2. Mount citronella oil torches around the perimeter of your yard. Smoke and fire are time-honored mosquito repellents, but citronella oil makes this method even more powerful at ridding your space of these pests.
3. Cut your grass short and trim your shrubs down so that mosquitoes have no place to hide. Remove piles of leaves and dump out any pools of standing water.
4. Spray your yard with an organic mosquito repellent to boost the work of the plants and herbs you've positioned in the area. A garlic-scented spray, for example, works wonders for getting rid of mosquitoes.
