The rasberry ant, also known as the crazy ant, is a new species of ant. Making their way across the United States, rasberry ants are approximately 1/8 inch in size and reddish-brown in color. Instructions
1. Seal off any entry points the rasberry ants may use to enter your home. Check the windows and doors, as well as around the foundation. A small crack is all the ants need to find a way inside. Use caulk to fill cracks and gaps. Also, replace drain covers with mesh-covered ones.
2. Remove the ants' food source. Rasberry ants eat dead insects. Clean out insect traps often. Keep sugary foods well sealed in airtight storage containers, and ensure hummingbird feeders are ant proof. If your hummingbird feeder is not ant proof, empty it and put it away until the ant problem is under control.
3. Reduce garden and lawn watering. Rasberry ants breed best in moist environments. Reducing the amount of watering reduces the moisture-rich environment they prefer.
4. Spray invading ants with pesticide. Choose organic pesticides to avoid toxic chemicals. Find traditional and organic insecticides at your local home improvement or garden supply store.
5. Identify the ant source by looking for anthills in your yard. Pour boiling water down the anthill to kill the ants. The boiling water is an attempt to kill the workers and the queen. However, since rasberry ants often have multiple queens, repeat this process four to five times in a week. Pour boiling water over every anthill in your yard.
