Great Wedding Photo Ideas

Wedding photos can be fun and spontaneous.

Your wedding day is meant to be special, something you'll remember forever. Wedding photos should capture the day in a memorable fashion. After all, you'll be looking at the pictures for the rest of your life. Aside from the standard bride and groom/wedding party photos, there are ways for you and your photographer to jazz up your pictures and make them creative, fun, and spontaneous.

Add a Personal Touch

Try to incorporate personal items into the photos. Photographs of the bride or groom with cherished personal items resonate greater sentimentality. This "cherished item" might be a child, if either newlywed is a parent, or it could be something denoting history--such as a parent's wedding photo--or whimsy--such as an autographed football. Personal touches give more meaning to the photos and turn them from usual to unique.

Funny/Silly Moments

Not every picture has to capture the bride and groom in a loving and endearing pose. Pictures that have a funny story behind them will have the happy couple laughing and reminiscing for a long time to come. The couple could stage a funny photo of themselves and the wedding party in silly poses or ask the photographer to capture "behind the scenes" moments of the wedding and reception. Candid photos can be a welcome respite to those that are formally posed.

Creative Effects

There's no rule that says a wedding photographer can't tinker with the pictures and add effects or visuals to them. The use of Photoshop and/or other software comes in handy when looking for creative picture ideas. The bride could be photographed with the camera looking up at her, and a cloud effect could be added with editing. Another good idea is to capture the bride and groom from a high vantage point as they look up into the camera and add movement to the photo with applicable effects.

Photograph the Rings

Think of creative ways to photograph the wedding rings. One idea is to have the bride and groom remove their rings during the reception so they can be photographed inside champagne glasses placed side by side in front of the bridal bouquet. Placing the rings in the frosting of the cake is another idea. The picture could be taken with a macro lens so the photographer can get as close in as possible. Incorporating the rings into the pictures illustrates what the day is all about.
