Build A Fogger

Fog can help create a spooky ambiance to your outdoor Halloween display.

When decorating your house or yard for Halloween, one thing that can really make for a spooky atmosphere is fog. To make fog, you can either buy a commercially produced fogger or you can make your own, which would cost less than buying one. When you finish building your fogger, you can hide it outside under bushes to create a nice ground fog effect or someplace up high to create a falling fog effect. Wherever you do place it, though, make sure it is in a well-ventilated area. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the lid from the top of the coffee can. Place the fan on top of the lid, in the middle (it should be a small enough fan that it will fit inside the lid). Use your marker to trace around the fan.

2. Remove the fan from the lid. Using your utility knife, cut a hole about half an inch inside the area you traced.

3. Glue the fan with hot glue on top of the hole you cut in step two. The fan should be placed so that when the lid is put back onto the coffee can, it will draw air into the can.

4. Splice a nine-volt connector to the wires on the fan.

5. Place one end of the hose against the side of the coffee can, about 1/2 inch from the top of the can. Trace a circle around the hose.

6. Cut out the hole with the tin snips. Afterward, use the Dremel to smooth down the sides and remove any sharp edges.

7. Insert the hose into the hole you just cut. If it doesn't fit, you may need to cut a larger hole. Seal the edges where the can and the hose meet with hot glue.

8. Pour boiling water into the coffee can and then add a chunk of dry ice. Attach a nine-volt battery to the nine-volt connector and place the lid on top of the coffee can. Fog from the dry ice will now pour out through the hose.
